Saturday evening saw the Manchester Mayhem Para Ice Hockey team fall to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of their hosts the Sheffield Steel Kings at Ice Sheffield, as the Mayhem put in a battling performance without Karl Nicholson, Dean Lahan and Tom Kimm from the line-up. Manchester did welcome back two players though to the fold, with Dave Lawrence who missed the entire season last year through injury, while Canadian International Peggy Assinck returned in Mayhem colours having spent a year out on loan at Peterborough, with her second role being a stand in player coach for Pete Hagan, of whom was away due to a family matter..

A tight opening period saw the hosts Sheffield breaking the deadlock at 13:21 gone in the first, before Anthony Booth replied for the Mayhem early on in the second for 1-1, with the Steel Kings then retaking the lead minutes later before adding a third late on in the second period. Sheffield would strengthen their grip on the game with two goals in the third, though the Mayhem were still fighting like beavers. Netminder Darren Pomfret saw a lot of the puck in the contest as he made 27 saves in the game, as Pomfret did well to keep the score down.

Next up for the Mayhem sees them taking on fellow strugglers in the Sheffield Steel Stings at Widnes Ice Rink this Sunday at 4.25pm, as both sides will be desperate to register their first win this season.
